The piano duet of Lyudmila Berlinskaya and Arthur Ancelle was formed in 2011. This album is the first original project of Melodiya for the last twenty years that introduces a new generation of Russian music performers (by virtue of circumstances, Firma Melodiya has been re-releasing the recordings made in the former USSR). įirma Melodiya presents recordings of the suites for two pianos from Sergei Prokofiev’s ballets. If you think you've heard everything of Liszt - which you probably have - do not deny yourself of hearing what I deem an extraordinary and exceptional recording. The material was recorded in May and June of 2016 at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, some of the finest acoustics I've heard from this venue regarding piano. The recording quality is outstanding as are the acoustics. These are two artists whose work should be more recognized.Īnd the Saint-Saens arrangement of the overwhelming Sonata in B Minor comes together in ways I thought not possible, but the arranger, a first-class pianist himself, would bring the very best of his ideas to this music and not slant Liszt in the least. Virtuosity aside, their two magnificent Yamaha concert grand pianos sound like one piano - so perfectly aligned, voiced, tuned, etc. This is a first-class piano duo that literally breathe together in their music-making. Imagine having two versions of the same piece (Danse Macabre) on one disc? Both very diferrent, but still the Danse Macabre and enormously ear-appealing. It was ear-shocking for me to take in this entire recording. 40 (transcribed by Liszt-Horowitz-Ancelle) Dante Sonata (transcribed by Arthur Ancelle).Sonata in B Minor (transcribed by Saint-Saens).40 (original version for two pianos by Saint-Saens) Here is the fare in the form of transcriptions of Liszt's original music: Melodiya has issued a CD entitled "Franz Liszt: 2 Sonatas for 2 Pianos." It's called a world premiere recording. The French are asking why they do not hear in concert more from Arthur Ancelle. ![]() They have made some recordings together and separately. I am a bit unfamiliar with the husband-wife piano duo, Ludmila Berlinskaya (Russian) and Arthur Ancelle (French). ![]()
